Knowledge cannot be ethically ambiguous or Neutral. It must Uplift Society…” – Dr Jernail Singh Anand

(A Report On the International Seminar World Poetry Conference by Dr Perugu Ramakrishna)

On 26 March 2026, an International Seminar and Poetry Conference was held at Soka Ikeda Arts and Science College for Women in Ambattur, Chennai, an institution founded and led for over 25 years by Dr. Sethu Kumanan, and named after the Japanese poet Dr. Daisaku Ikeda. The event was jointly organized with the International Academy of Ethics, based in Chandigarh, under the theme: “Reformatting Young Minds for a Grand New World.”

The program began ceremoniously with the lighting of the lamp and the Tamil State song. Dr. Maya Herman Sekulic, Vice President of the International Academy of Ethics from Serbia/US , joined virtually and conveyed her best wishes for the success of the event.

In the inaugural session, Chairman Dr. Sethu Kumanan expressed his hope that the staff and students would make the event meaningful and that the theme would positively influence young minds. On this occasion, Dr. Jernail Singh Anand and Dr. Perugu Ramakrishna presented the Academy Fellowship to Dr. Sethu Kumanan. Both Dr. Anand and Dr. Perugu Ramakrishna were also honored with the Soka Ikeda Memorial Mega Literary Award.

Dr. Jernail Singh Anand, on behalf of the International Academy of Ethics, honored international poet Dr. Perugu Ramakrishna with the Roll of Honor, and poet and government teacher Perugu Sujana Raman with the Ambassador of Eternity Award and a certificate of appreciation. Several books by various authors were also released.

In his keynote address, Dr. Anand, considered a vital architect of 21st century ethical literature who challenges the moral complacency of our era, spoke on how the concept of an oath resonates in the age of AI. He emphasized:

“Knowledge is never neutral. It has the power either to uplift society or to damage its moral foundation.”

He introduced the idea of an Ethical Alphabet:

K – Kindness

F – Forgiveness

E – Ethics

C – Compassion

He explained that these are not just words, but guiding values for the modern world. As knowledge grows rapidly, it must be accompanied by strong ethics.

Dr. Anand also led students and teachers in taking an oath:

“I will use my knowledge for the well being of society.

I will not use my knowledge or power in ways that harm ethical structure of the society” .

He suggested that this oath should even be printed on degree certificates, so that students graduate not only with knowledge but also with responsibility.

He clearly stated that education should teach not only what to do, but also what not to do. In today’s world of AI and biotechnology, this message is crucial. Knowledge without ethics can be dangerous, leading to problems like environmental destruction, digital fraud, and misguided leadership.

This oath carries a powerful message:

A degree is not just about what you know, but a promise of how you will live.

The collective taking of this oath by students and teachers was not just a ceremony, it was a silent revolution. If such practices spread across educational institutions, we will create not just skilled professionals, but responsible human beings. Kindness, forgiveness, ethics, and compassion are not weaknesses, they are strengths that guide knowledge in the right direction.

This oath, he concluded, is the first step towards building a better world.

Later, international poet and SAARC Literary Award recipient Dr. Perugu Ramakrishna spoke on ethical values in the works of the revered Japanese poet Dr. Daisaku Ikeda. Around 30 distinguished poets, writers, and scholars from across the country presented papers and recited poetry during the sessions.

In the valedictory session, Chennai High Court advocate and bilingual poet Vanavil Ravi spoke on the comparative literary aspects of Mahakavi Bharati and P. B. Shelley. He was later honored with the Academy Fellowship by Dr. Anand. Vanavil Ravi, also an organizer associated with the Mahakavi Bharati institution, presented Mahakavi Bharati Awards to Dr. Jernail S Anand, Dr. Sethu Kumanan, Dr. Maya Herman Sekulic , and Dr. Perugu Ramakrishna.

On this occasion, many eminent poets and writers from across the country were felicitated with the Ambassador of Eternity Award, mementos, and certificates of appreciation. The event was smoothly conducted with discipline and warmth hospitality by Principal Dr. Meera Murugesan, Vice Principal Kanmani, and faculty Dr.Sandhya Lakshmi…!!
